Octavian Melnic, graduated with a perfect mark of 100/100 at the “I.T.I.S. Rossi” in Vicenza (polytechnic secondary school) is the winner of the third edition of the "Franco Gemmo" scholarship

Octavian Melnic, 20 years old from Moldova whi moved in Vicenza 5 years ago, won the third edition of the “Franco Gemmo” scholarship. Octavian scored a perfect 100/100 in its final graduation marks at Istituto Tecnico Industriale Alessandro Rossi (Vicenza’s premiere tecnica high school).

The “Franco Gemmo” scholarship comes from the collaboration between the Gemmo Family an Milan’s “Politecnico” University and it is annually awarded to the best student coming from Rossi high school in Vicenza, hometown of the family. The scholarship covers the 5 years of the engineering degree courses at Politecnico and, once the winner graduates, it allows him to work for Gemmo SpA.

Susanna Gemmo, Vice-president and director of general affairs at Gemmo SpA commented: “Never has been more difficult to come up with the winner. This year, all the candidates showed an impressive level of preparation, even thanks to Rossi Institure excellent work. In the end though we chose Octavian: he arrived in Vicenza 5 years ago and didn’t even spoke Italian. Now he is a top score graduate with international on-field experience”. Susanna continued, “His story is a great example of integration in a multi-ethnic society and Octavian’s talented initiative recalls the spirit that inspired our father to start this scholarship”.

Octavian, the winner himself said, “I’m so happy because today a dream comes true: winning a scholarship for one of the most prestigious schools in Italy, with an internationally renowned technological reach. Once there, I’ll be able to fulfil my passion for electronics and to use the experiences I made at Rossi, Vicenza’s Green Solutions and Plymouth’s Thermalec in the UK.”

Octavian Melnic won displaying and impressive array of titles and merits: an average mark of more than 9, he graduated with a thesis on a spherical display screen and he fluently reads and speak Italian, Russian, Romanian and English.

Lorenzo Gaggino, principal of Rossi Institute said: “This scholarship is an excellent opportunity for our students. The quality of their preparation and their determination to undertake a challenging course of studies represent a great reward for the whole school’s personnel”.

Octavian is the only son of Sergiu, electrician and Ludmila, housewife. Other than the passion for electronics, Octavian loves swimming and attends acting classes.
